Kim de Beaumont Lectures at Alliance Francaise de Greenwicih, November 27

Dear friends,

It may be gray and snowy today, but I am fired up to see Kim de Beaumont's lecture on public spaces in 17th- and 18th-century Paris at 1:30 pm at the Women Club of Greenwichm 89 Maple Aveue.  This lecture is sponsored by the Alliance Française de Greenwich

Dr. de Beaumont is an art historian who teaches at Hunter College and Pace College.  You may know the exhibition she curated for the Frick Museum: Gabriel de Saint-Aubin, fall-winter 2007-8.

Caribbean: Crossroads of the World

Dear friends,

I am especially excited about our tour on Wednesday, November 28th.  We will have the pleasure of visiting the Caribbean, right here in New York, at El Museo del Barrio, which was recently renovated.

Here you will find rarely exhibited works by Gwendolyn Knight (wife of Jacob Lawrence) and Jacob Lawrence, Camille Pissarro (the Jewish Impressionist born on St. Thomas, whose parents' marriage was considered a scandal within such a tight-knit community), and Paul Gauguin (who lived in Martinique for several months in 1887).

We will also see contemporary works by Papo Calo (whose alternative exhibition space, Exit Art, closed in May, soon after our NYAE tour), Ana Mendieta (who came from Cuba and died too soon in New York in 1985) and Arnaldo Roche Rabell (whose painting graces the catalog's cover).

A Virtual Tour with Rhode Island Artist Tayo Heuser

Dear friends,

The Holiday Season is officially here and we have much to celebrate.
Let's begin with feasting our eyes on a new short documentary about Tayo Heuser, a fabulous Rhode Island artist, whose work I have followed for quite some time.  

This film made me fall in love with her art all over again.

November 2012 Newsletters: Thanksgiving Greetings

Dear friends,

We have much to be thankful for during this Thanksgiving and Holiday Season.  For many, it's is having electricity and heat after lengthy power outages due to Hurricane Sandy and Nor'Ester Athena.

However, many people still suffer from losses incurred by these storms and other serious reverses.
While we celebrate our good fortune, please consider those who have lost so much.  Here is a link to a list of several organizations that need our help.

As you know, the New York Arts Exchange had to postpone two tours, because of the storms.

June 2012 Newsletter - June Tours

Please join us for a Cindy Sherman and Post Exhibition Schmooze on Friday, June 8 at the Museum of Modern Art, at 1 pm.  This is not a tour.  
We will  meet in the exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art on Friday at 1 pm in the exhibition, followed by coffee in the cafe at Trump Tower, Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th Street.  At the Trump cafe we will schmooze about the show, current identity issues and the "Pictures Generation" - which produced Sherman et al.   This  event is just for fun (no charge).
