March Madness and Spring Tours

Dear friends,

March Madness is upon us - and I don't mean the NBA.  From March 8 through March 11, the major art fairs will invade NYC, forcing glassy-eyed art hunters to wander through the caverns of booths in various venues until they drop dead with exhaustion.  Warning: enter at your own peril and wear very comfortable shoes:
The Armory Show
Volta
Scope

Just in: The Stein Collection at the Met is HUGE - we will have to dedicate more than one day to this exceptional exhibition.   Please note that on March 14, the Rembrandt/Degas exhibition, which is quite small, will last only 45 minutes.  We will spend the remaining hour or so in the Stein Collection for an orientation and an introduction to the collection.  The March 28 tour will briefly summarize the previous tour and continue through the exhibition.  Please be aware that this exhibition needs several visits to adequately absorb this once-in-a-lifetime experience.  The Stein Collection rivals the Barnes and Cone Collections - and may well be far superior in its taste.

Spring Tours on Wednesdays, meeting at 1 pm:

March 7 - Italian Renaissance Portrait at the Met
March 14 - Rembrandt/Degas; intro to the Stein Collection, Met Museum
March 21 - no class*
March 28 - Gertrude, Leo and Michael Stein's Collection, Met Museum
April 4 - The reopened American Wing galleries, Met Museum
April 11- Chelsea Galleries
April 18 - The Whitney Biennial
April 25 - Midtown Galleries
May 2 - Uptown Galleries
May 9 - Soho Galleries
May 16 - Chelsea Galleries

*Dr. Paul Werner will accept NYAE members into his March 21 tour at the Met at 1:30 pm.  He will lecture on Italian Baroque.  Dr. Werner has graciously offered to accept reservations through NYAE - and will not charge for this lecture.   (Thank you, Paul - you are terrific!)   Dr. Werner will offer a full lecture series in the late spring.

Reservations at nyarts.exchange@verizon.net
$500 for the series of 10; $60 per tour

Faculty News:
