The Whitney Biennial is not very good this year - I am sorry to say. If you have time today, Friday, April 20, please visit the Brucennial, the Bruce High Quality Foundation's alternative to the Whitney Bi. It is fabulous and free: 159 Bleecker Street, between Thompson and Sullivan. 10 - 6.
And at the New Museum, on The Bowery at Prince Street, please check out "The Ungovernables," closing on Sunday, April 22 at 6 pm.

March Madness and Spring Tours
Dear friends,
March Madness is upon us - and I don't mean the NBA. From March 8 through March 11, the major art fairs will invade NYC, forcing glassy-eyed art hunters to wander through the caverns of booths in various venues until they drop dead with exhaustion. Warning: enter at your own peril and wear very comfortable shoes:

Just in: The Stein Collection at the Met is HUGE - we will have to dedicate more than one day to this exceptional exhibition. Please note that on March 14, the Rembrandt/Degas exhibition, which is quite small, will last only 45 minutes. We will spend the remaining hour or so in the Stein Collection for an orientation and an introduction to the collection. The March 28 tour will briefly summarize the previous tour and continue through the exhibition. Please be aware that this exhibition needs several visits to adequately absorb this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Stein Collection rivals the Barnes and Cone Collections - and may well be far superior in its taste.

Did you know that most Abstract Expressionists began as Surrealists? Michael Rosenfeld Gallery juxtaposes early works and later works by William Baziotes, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, and others, to demonstrate this point in the current exhibition: Evolution in Action (through October 29).
Our art tour this week, on Wednesday, October 5, will meet at Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, 24 West 57th Street at 1 pm. We will then visit Francis Naumann Fine Arts to see the eccentric work of Beatrice Wood, as well as many other galleries in the 57th Street area. I look forward to seeing you then.
